There are few things more grueling than the process of getting in shape, and somehow letting life happen (because occasionally we all need that plate of greasy french fries, extra cheesy pizza, or intensely rich slice of cheesecake), then having to lose the weight all over again. However, living a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be such a tragic chore if you balance everything out. I'm a firm believer in doing everything in moderation for a happy and healthy body. As a mommy of a fully energized toddler, remaining active allows me to stay engaged in all aspects of life without having to sacrifice one type of peace of mind for another.  Life is all about balance – whether it be squeezing in a workout early in the mornings while my son works out with me, cooking a healthy meal, cleaning my house, playing with my son at the playground or running to a photo shoot, it's possible.

Staying Active with Target® C9

As the end of Summer nears its dreadful departure, two thoughts come to mind - it's time to switch up the workout routine and my face should no longer melt off when I step outside.  Therefore, I'm teaming up with Target® C9 to share my favorite ways to remain active toward the end of Summer and beginning of Fall.  Since Miami tends to cool down slightly post-Summer, it gives me the opportunity to do a variety of outdoor activities such as going for a run or doing a little yoga by the beach.  Although if you know me well enough, it's apparent that I usually do a Beachbody workout in-home.  When the seasons change over, I like to dive into a different program though. 

Lately, I've been quite fond of P90X3 since it allows me to refrain from being soaked in the heat while Summer ends and it's also something that I can do within 30 minutes while still taking care of my little guy at home. What are some of your favorite activities that you keep you fit while transitioning seasons?

Who doesn't love snacks?  It has been highly requested to feature my son in more blog posts and/or videos, so we filmed how to make some of his favorite healthy snacks in the little amount of time that is available in a day to make them.  Feeding children nourishing food is important, as they burn off plenty of energy throughout the day.  Most of the items used in this video were all purchased from Trader Joe's, but any natural food store will do.

How to Lose Stubborn Belly Fat: Tips for a Flat Stomach

In continuation with my Beautiful Confidence series, today's post highlights healthy habits for losing stubborn belly fat and tips for a flatter stomach as bikini season nears.  Stubborn belly fat is one of those annoyances that sticks around and doesn't go away, like a lurking ex-boyfriend.  However, there are ways to evict that muffin top and create six-pack abs for the Summer season.

1. Eat clean

There is an infamous saying that goes, "abs are built in the kitchen."  From my experience, this is absolutely true.  There are moments where we all cheat and get tempted by pizza or pasta, which is perfectly fine in limitations.  When it's time to slim down, eating junk food all day will not help in the weight-loss process.  Therefore, the goal is to eat clean or unprocessed foods such as:

Fruits - Apples, oranges, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, mangoes, etc.
Vegetables - Kale, spinach, romaine, cabbage, bell peppers, mushrooms
Carbs - Sweet potatoes, brown rice, gluten-free oats, gluten-free pasta, quinoa
Protein - Lean meats like chicken breasts or lean beef, white fish like tilapia, salmon, whey protein, egg whites, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese
Healthy Fats - Coconut oil, avocado, fish oil, nuts, flax seeds

2. Eat more often

No, you didn't read that incorrectly.  Many people mistake starving themselves as the miracle weight-loss solution when in reality, it only makes things worse for the body and metabolism.  Eating the correct amount of protein, whole foods and healthy fats, promotes fat loss.  On the other hand, starving oneself will have a domino effect where the body is deprived of nutrients after so long.  Therefore, it will scream "feed me everything" at one point.  Eating at least 5-6 small meals per day will also help the body burn muscle into energy, in conjunction with healthy exercise.  By eating every three hours, the body won't starve and you will feel satisfied.  Some tips include:

Eat proteins, vegetables/fruits with every meal
Eat carbohydrates after workouts only

3.  Drink more water

Drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day is not only good for cleansing out the body and the  detoxification process, but it may be the solution for what the mind believes to be hunger.  Sometimes the body is dehydrated rather than hungry.  Drinking a glass of water before and after each meal helps reduce overeating and allows for better digestion. 

4.  Boost up cardio and get stronger

Cardio helps to burn fat quicker, while weightlifting strengthens the muscles and increases fat loss.  Ever since I began lifting weights, I've noticed a drastic change in the definition of my body and my ability to eat more (which is a plus for me because I love food)!  If you aren't sure what to do, start small by walking or jogging for 30 minutes per day and lifting for 30-45 minutes.  Slowly begin to increase the cardio time and reps.

5.  Try a skin toning solution

Bikini season is right around the corner, and often people ask what I do to get in shape for summer or how I stay healthy.  To maintain a balanced lifestyle, I believe that it requires a combination of a nutritious diet and exercise.  However, there are some other tips that I incorporate into my "Spring Slim Down" routine that help whip me into shape a little quicker and give me beautiful confidence to shine.

To kickstart my day, I love to put together a healthy breakfast that is appealing to the eye and body.  One of my favorite meals is a big platter filled with fresh fruits paired alongside gluten-free oats or yogurt and granola.  It gives me enough energy to begin my day and remain active with my morning workout routine.

After breakfast, I either pop in one of my Beachbody workout DVD's or head outside to do some quick workouts on the beach.  During my slim down routine, I utilize a park bench to conduct tricep dips, a stair railing to do standing push-ups, and I've also been loving squats lately.  Squats and push-ups are great ways to tone the core and firm up that booty for bikini season!

New Year, New You: How to Get Motivated



It's been a little while since I posted an episode of my "Fab to Fit" series, but I discovered this hidden little gem as I was going through my video archives.  What better time to showcase "How to get Motivated" than right after the New Year?  Sometimes we find ourselves getting "stuck" or distracted by other activities that we have going on in our lives that we forget to focus on what's important.  Therefore, today's post is all about getting motivated and entering the New Year with a plan!

My Steps to Getting Motivated:

1)  Make a Plan

2)  Set Goals or a Time Frame

3)  Go into it with an Open Mind

4)  Stay on Schedule - No Distractions!

5)  Create a Mood Board

6)  Build a Team or Partnership

7)  Reward Yourself
