Video: Hunger Games Catching Fire Inspired Tutorial - CoverGirl Makeup + Nails

As many of you may already know, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie releases on November 22nd as the sequel to the epic Hunger Games trilogy which is based on the novel that has sold over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.  If you haven't seen the fire Hunger Games movie (perhaps you have been living under a rock), then I highly suggest checking it out prior to November 22nd.  Although a science fiction themed movie may not sound appealing to some, the movie has actually sparked quite the stir in the fashion and beauty world.  The upcoming movie not only features handmade designs but also pieces by Alexander McQueen, Juun J, Nicholas K, and Tex Saverio.

Aside from the fashion, legendary music icon Lenny Kravitz and celebrated actor Jeffrey Wright will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymor Hoffman, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.

In the spirit of the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opening, I've recreated the District 2/Masonry look from CoverGirl's "Capitol Beauty Studio" which features 12 district looks inspired by the movie.  It's an edgy, yet sultry look that can be worn as both dramatic or casual.  Dotti, CoverGirl Capitol Makeup Artist says of the inspiration behind this look,
" I went for a matte, chalky, yet elegant finish that represents the stone of Masonry in a feminine way."

Black & White Contrast.

As one of the key fashion trends during the spring/summer season, contrasting black and white colors has been all the rage.  Although we're approaching the fall season now, I still love the simplicity and classic appeal from pairing these two basic colors together.  Designers such as Michael Kors, Maison Martin Margiela, Miu Miu, Ralph Lauren, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, Jil Sander, and 3.1 Philip Lim went back-to-basics on the runway with black and white pieces.

To pull a contrasting look together, one can pair contrasting patterns or textures into an outfit or simply piece together various items that mix and match.

Miami Swim Week Recap I: Cosmo Splash + ASOS Penthouse

Miami Swim Week featured a number of fabulous events, highlighting sexy swimwear and beautiful models in sunny Miami.  A few of fashion-goers' favorite events during Mercedes-Benz Swim Week included the much anticipated Cosmopolitan en Espanol Summer Splash event at the SLS Hotel and ASOS Penthouse at Soho Beach House.

As Latin celebrity guests paraded into the 7th annual Cosmo Summer Splash on the pink carpet, swimwear models were back stage preparing for the heated up runway with Pantene Pro-V heat-resistant and humidity proof products.  Ciroc and Peroni provided fashion-saavy socialites with signature cocktails prior to the runway showcasing of nationally known swimwear designs by Samsara Imports, Inca, Eberjey, Zingara, Fitsico, Cuban Rice, Maya Swimwear and Papi Underwear (menswear).

The UK's largest independent online fashion and beauty retailer, ASOS, invited select attendees to ASOS's official Penthouse Party at Miami Swim this year.  Located at the private and chic Soho Beach House, the ASOS Penthouse was filled with Miami's most elite guests.  Soho Beach House is a private members club, hotel and spa located in the historic site of the Sovereign Hotel and overlooks the ocean with two pool areas.

Guests sipped on exclusively designed Corzo + Red Bull + Perrier cocktails while music by IO ECHO and NANCY WHANG of LCD SOUNDSYSTEM resonated throughout the upper pool deck area.  What Miami Swim Week party would be complete without some glam swag bags and an ASOS photo booth to snap photos?

One of my favorite fashion trends for the summer is showing off a little abdomen, and Miami has the perfect weather for such an outfit.  Actually, the weather is so hot that wearing no clothes at all would seem perfectly normal in my mind (although my body would not agree).  For today's look of the day I paired a cropped bustier from the Spring 2013 "Forever LA" collection with a pair of high-waisted, lightweight pants from H&M's Conscious Collection.  Although I have not been shopping as much at Forever 21 lately, this particular collection caught my eye with its bold and alluring pieces which feature a mix of graphic tribal prints.

According to Grazia Daily, "The Forever LA collection has two parts, the West Side and the East Side. The East Side is inspired by 90s urban Los Angeles style with vintage and alternative style pieces—think Fresh Prince of Bel Air. While the West Side embodies the laid-back vibe of LA with abstract prints, vibrant sneakers and crop tops.”  The face of the Forever LA collection is the timeless beauty, Cassie.

The Perfect Casual Look for the Summer

One of my favorite items for the summer is my floral shorts, which can be dressed up or down.  In today's look of the day, I put together a casual outfit that I wore over the weekend.  An alternative to dressing these shorts down would be to pair them with a sheer black blouse or peplum top along with some strappy sandal heels or lucite pumps.  Since I was just out running some errands and having brunch, I decided to go for a more casual look that allowed me to stay pretty comfortable.

Weekend Recap.

After what seemed to be the hottest weekend in Miami (literally), I managed to survive the scorching weather and spend some time relaxing.  My favorite day during the weekends is Sunday because all of the local Miami-ans migrate to Lincoln Road where the ritualistic farmers market takes place every week.  I love to go there and pick up local fruits and veggies for the week, grab an iced coffee from Starbucks, a sushi lunch at Doraku, and occasionally shop around.

Here's a little photo diary of my weekend:
