It's A Gold Birthday

Over time, I've slowly transitioned from one of those "it's my birthday all month long" to "let's just sit here and do nothing" type of people. However, today's birthday is exciting because I'm in Los Angeles and grateful for another year! I stopped by Sunset Boulevard to check out the shops and restaurants, and took some shots of this golden look.

Athleisure

One of my favorite fashion trends of the moment, is athleisure. What started as a pronounced trend in 2010, has significantly shifted the way individuals dress. Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of experiencing Funkshion's THE RETREAT here in Miami. Essentially, THE RETREAT has taken the athleisure trend and turned it into a lifestyle. A four day retreat featuring fashion presentations, panel discussions, designer one-on-one's, and private events took place at Soho Beach House and the Nautilus Hotel. As someone who is quite engulfed into an active lifestyle, it was an excellent combination of healthy and fitness-focused fashion/beauty. To be honest, I'm either in full-on workout clothing with little to no makeup or completely glammed up from head to toe. There's really no in between...until now. Athleisure takes the effortless style of rocking activewear and melds it with business casual chic. Would you rock it?

Venice Beach Boardwalk

Venice Beach Boardwalk is definitely one of those areas of Los Angeles that is not to be missed while in the city. Although this particular day was a little chilly, there was so much movement throughout the beach. I love how active and eclectic everybody is, even though I didn't get a chance to workout at Muscle Beach. Every time I go to LA, it feels like there is something new to be discovered, so I never get tired of traveling there. If you know anything about me, I'm slightly obsessed with the LA palm trees as well. I know, it's a really odd obsession. However, Miami palm trees aren't as sexy.

Since I was fighting the cool weather like a stone cold ninja, I paired a shoulder-baring satin blouse with some light-washed denim shorts and threw an oversized denim jacket over it. These lace-up rose gold EGO shoes added a little feminine touch to bring the look together as well.

Silky Red Dress + Lucite Heels

If you follow me on Instagram, then I'm sure you believe I wear gym clothes 99% of my breathing days. However, I love to get all dolled up too. Midtown is located in the heart of Miami, a few steps from Design District and the downtown area. It's essentially a shopping mecca filled with little cafes, restaurants, and fitness options as well. It's become a weekend must see-and-do, and if you're ever in Miami you have to visit and check out all that the area has to offer.

Military Shirt Dress + Statement Knee High Boots

After traveling up to the tundra for a week, it feels absolutely incredible to be back in warm climates once again. Before the temperature dropped to 50 degrees in Miami, the weather was amazing (especially on the day we shot these photos). Often times, I style my looks by mixing edgy or masculine pieces with delicate and feminine items. For example, I took a loose-fitting military shirt dress and layered it with a lace bralette and caged knee-high boots. Growing up, I was always running around with my older brother as the epitome of a tomboy. Therefore, my style has evolved but it's still blended with boyish pieces as well.

Silky Lingerie and Army Green

As a young Lynsee, I was quite the obvious tomboy. Yes, believe it or not, I enjoyed wearing oversized t-shirts with over-the-knee shorts and high-top sneakers. Although my style has transformed throughout the years, I still integrate the raw edginess of masculine pieces into my outfits. For example, this particular look combines a delicate light pink bralette and silk pants with a military styled trench coat and metallic shoes. What are some contrasting pieces that you enjoy putting together to complete your looks?

Chokers, Striped Silk Pants, and Translucent Heels

Well, hello there. It's been awhile.

Apparently, three days of not eating and barely sleeping leaves you feeling like a breath of fresh air. Despite my ill spell, I escaped for a little jaunt through Coral Gables today and almost forgot how beautiful this area of Miami really is. I've also been slightly obsessed with these pajama-style silk pants because they are extremely comfortable. What are some of your favorite pieces or trends at the moment?

Translucent Jumpsuits + Taking Over the World

Aside from the obvious wonders of birthing a child and watching him grow into a little man, I have to admit that it somewhat brings a tear to my unemotionally slivered eyes. As my son's fifth birthday (yes, Dear God, it has been five years since this young boy dropped out of my womb and presented himself to the world) came upon us a few days ago, I couldn't help but wonder where the time went. We all hear the typical "cherish the time you have with them because they grow up fast" tagline, but it is apparently 100% accurate. Despite the quickly curated seconds that have passed by, it's incredible to see my baby boy grow into his own personality and character. It amazes me every day how this little human who once resided in my stomach, absorbs so much knowledge each day.

In addition to his amazement, I made a promise to myself from the moment he was born, that I would not become that elastic jean wearing mom who lets everything go postpartum. Stemming from a moment in my life which was surprisingly dark and toxic, came the greatest blessing of my life, my son. He motivated me to remove any negativity from my life, do what I've always been passionate about, and ultimately create myself. I started working out shortly after having him, and made it a #FitMom mission to never give up on who I am...in any circumstance of my life. For that, I am forever grateful. I've committed myself to staying dedicated.

My apologies for the sentimental mushy crap today, but I had a moment.
