Bird's Eye View

Aside from about a billion reasons why I love New York City, there's much to be said about Summers in the city as well.  Shifting from the sweltering Miami heat to much more breathable air along with rooftop views of beautiful highrise architecture, sunlight peaking through the tallest buildings, and endless people hurriedly wandering the streets of NYC, truly feels like you're in the center of the world (if even for a moment).  On the opposite side of the spectrum, basking in the rooftop glory in the city is quite a change of speed in comparison to New York Fashion Week's bloody cold weather.

During my NYC experience with Marriott Hotels, I discovered a gem atop the Courtyard Marriott New York Manhattan/Herald Square.  The Scandinavian-chic décor of Monarch is one of the intricate details of the rooftop lounge, encompassing an indoor lounge with a seductive allure, Vintage bricks, glass doors, teak and grey custom Terrazzo tiles, and accents of true Manhattan elegance.  Let's just say with 5,000 square feet on the 18th floor and a photographic view of iconic Empire State Building, all possible thoughts of doubt or stress go completely out the window (if there were any).

A Hair Affair on Lexington Avenue

Products Yoshie used on my hair

In an effort to rid the accustomed method of zapping off inches of hair strictly one time per year, I recently had a hair date with Pierre Michel salon for a day of decadence.  The 10,000-square-foot behemoth of a monument sits at Lexington Avenue and 57th Street with over 61 workstations and three private treatment rooms.  Upon stepping foot into the salon, there was without a doubt good reasoning behind their 40+ year existence.  After visiting various locations in the city, Pierre Michel has maintained its recent location for about four years.  Every luxurious detail stood out: complimentary snacks and beverages at a marble-topped coffee bar, built-in massage chairs while being shampooed, free Wi-Fi, and even the bathrooms are accessorized with Dyson Airblade hand dryers.

After being draped in a Pierre Michel robe by one of their employees who has been loyal to the company for over 30 years, I was escorted to the shampoo room where I instantly sunk into the massage chair and felt utter relaxation.  Post-shampooing, I was advanced to consult with Yoshie, who is considered my go-to stylist whenever visiting New York City.  We discussed exactly what I wanted, how I typically style my hair, products to use, and she even inquired about the barrel size of curling iron that I use.  I placed my life in her hands as she artistically trimmed away at my locks, leaving me feeling like a million bucks.  I'm not the only who feels like a whole new woman after receiving a beautiful cut, right?  Let's just say I'm ditching any other hair stylist and flying straight to the city next time I need a trim.  Yoshie also introduced me to a hair service, Japanese hair straightening, which saturates the bonds within hair that gives its shape using a solution. Whatever the latest hair trends are, Pierre Michel covers it all.  Haircuts and styling start at $135, but it's completely worth it.

In addition to hair services, Pierre Michel also offers eyelash extensions, facial treatments, waxing, makeup applications, manicures and pedicures as well.  If you are ever in Manhattan, stop by Pierre Michel for a day of luxury.

The Best of NYC with Marriott Hotels

Although it's been quite apparent through my Instagram feed, the past week has been spent doing a little  exploring through the beloved New York City with Marriott Hotels.  There's something alluring about every trip to the Big Apple, whether it's the endless new discoveries or diverse connections made with individuals.  Let's just say it has me hooked and I continuously enjoy every jaunt back to the city.  This time around, I teamed up with Marriott Hotels (specifically the Courtyard New York Manhattan / Herald Square and SpringHillSuites New York Midtown Manhattan/Fifth Avenue) to explore their "Best of NYC" package.

Upon checking into the Courtyard New York Manhattan / Herald Square hotel, I received a warm welcome with an Explorer Pass which gave exclusive access to New York's top attractions.  The 16-story hotel sat directly across from Macy's in the heart of Herald Square so of course a little retail therapy occurred somewhere in the trip.  I'm also quite a sucker for an outdoor rooftop lounge with a city view, so Monarch's Scandavian-styled spot was a must-hit with gorgeous views of the Empire State Building and more.  Of course, each time I visit the city I head to Times Square and reboot on either a Starbucks coffee or grab a green juice from a street vendor.  The second day, I swiped my Explorer Pass at Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, a bike rental in Central Park, and MOMA (an authentic Picasso lured me in).

Subsequently, the next portion of the trip was spent alongside SpringHill Suites New York Manhattan / Fifth Avenue complete with a business area within the larger than life room so it gave me a chance to get caught up on some blogging before heading out to explore further.  Located in the heart of the Fashion District, the area is developing as the next wave of residential living with a sea of large buildings and stores.

Ever since the last trek to the city, the little gem Blossom Du Jour became an essential part of my life.  A vegan cronut actually exists, and they somehow mastered the pleasurable delight.  ASOS also invited me to check out their Holiday collections, so stopping by their office cured my fashion craving coinciding with Soho's boundless shopping haven.  Another gem, Tokio 7, was a new-found companion of mine featuring consigned high-end designer pieces like Roberto Cavalli belts, 3.1 Phillip Lim skirts, Lanvin dresses, and so much more.  After hearing so many good things about it, it was a must-see.

In lieu of simply reading about my trip, the Marriott is offering the chance for you to win a trip to experience the "Best of NYC" too!  Enter the #WIN3NYC Summer Sweeps for a chance to win the Best of NYC hotel package and a trip to the Big Apple.  The Best of NYC package at Courtyard New York Manhattan / Herald Square includes tickets to your choice of three attractions.  Breakfast, Internet and New York City attraction passes are all included in SpringHill Suites New York Midtown Manhattan /Fifth Avenue's Best of NYC package.

My Favorite Travel Jacket + Cutoff Shorts in Central Park

After a recent stint to the city that never sleeps, a girl is missing The Sanctuary Hotel where they treated me like a Queen (and the breathable Summer air that won't melt my face off).  Additionally, the beauty of Central Park was one of my favorite spots to relax or get a little cardio in.  Central Park is such a gorgeous area with plenty to do and see, especially with a toddler.  Since it was my first time taking my little guy to New York City, hunting down things for us to do was quite a mission.  Whether it was stopping by the Central Park Zoo, the Carousel, Conservatory Water, numerous playgrounds, or The Loebe Boathouse to row around the park, there were endless things for us to do.

While wandering around the park, I found this tranquil spot overlooking the area which was the perfect location to take a break and relax.  As for the look, I've been obsessed with this Anatomie jacket for traveling because it's unbelievably comfortable and lightweight so I rocked it pretty much everywhere.  When it cooled down at night or in the airport, I threw it on, and tied it around my waist or rolled up the sleeves otherwise.

Whenever in need for some comfy and chic clothes to travel in, I gravitate to Anatomie because their lightweight pieces tailor to your body type so everything fits like a glove.  A few other items that I took with me on my NYC trip were their Doris Jumpsuit and Madonna Cargo Pants.

What are some of your go-to travel fashion pieces?

For a refreshing trip away from the sweltering heat, I escaped to The Sanctuary Hotel in the city that never sleeps.  New York City always has a special place in my heart, as I love trekking through the city's endless destinations, restaurants, shopping, and so much more.  However, this particular trip was extra special because my little guy made the journey with me.

Upon arriving to The Sanctuary Hotel, their incredible staff greeted us with a generous welcome to New York City (complete with freshly baked cookies and a sweet note waiting in the hotel room).  One of their services that I absolutely loved is the S.T.A.R. Experience Program, which is a specialized five-star service that stands for Service Tailored to Any Request.

Whether I needed endless help lugging my son's stroller or shopping bags from Toys R' Us, reservations at one of their restaurants, delivery of packages that were sent to the hotel or advice on where to take my son, they made the entire experience seamless.  We were within walking distance to all attractions such as Broadway shows, Times Square, FAO Schwarz, Central Park, Sprinkles Cupcake ATM (yes, this exists), Union Square Park, Grand Central Terminal, New York Public Library, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, and the list goes on.

Each morning we enjoyed a complimentary gourmet breakfast at Tender Restaurant & Lounge, which is decked out with plush banquettes and solid walnut tables for beautiful decor.  In the evenings,  their Haven Rooftop Lounge is exceptional for a beautiful atmosphere surrounded by the city skyline.  The food was not only delicious, but they offered gluten-free and healthy options as well.

After dining at Haven Rooftop Lounge in the Sanctuary Hotel (New York City) and trying delicious dishes made by Chef Madison Belem, a little Summer cuisine inspiration sparked.  Chef Madison Belem designed a French-inspired menu for the restaurant which includes delectable bites such as the Tuna Tower (tuna tartare with crispy wontons and sesame dressing), Fish Tacos, with a Crab and Avocado Palette.  Located in the heart of Manhattan, Haven offers a stunning view overlooking New York City while enjoying a glass of Sanctuary Sangria.  Inspired by Chef Madison Belem's amazing dishes, here's a spin on some favorites from Haven Rooftop Lounge.

Tuna Tower:
1-1/2 pounds sushi-grade Yellowfin tuna
1 Tbsp. lime juice
2 Tbsp. sesame oil
2 tsp. soy sauce or Liquid Aminos
1 tsp. hot sauce
1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1 minced scallion
1 ripe avocado, diced
1 tsp. sesame seeds
2-4 Wonton wrappers, baked (or fried)

Dice the tuna into 1/8-inch pieces and place in a bowl.  In a smaller bowl, combine the sesame oil, lime juice, soy sauce and hot sauce together.  Pour the sesame dressing over the tuna and fold in salt, pepper, and avocado until well incorporated.  To assemble the tuna tartare, place a baked or fried wonton wrapper on a plate and stack the tuna mixture on top.  Sprinkle with scallion and sesame seeds.  Add the other wonton wrapper and devour.

Sanctuary Sangria:
1 oz CÎROC Peach vodka
1 oz red wine
.5 oz Hennessy
.5 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
.5 oz simple syrup (cane sugar + water, boiled and cooled)
Serve over ice.

All in all, this was one of my most memorable trips to New York City.  In addition to an amazing experience with The Sanctuary Hotel, my son was able to discover new territory as well.  If you are planning a trip to the Big Apple, make sure you stay at The Sanctuary Hotel located at 132 W. 47th Street in New York City.  For a S.T.A.R. experience, ask for Brandon!
