Two-Toned Blazer and Silk Jogger Pants

"Interestingly, I love power dressing
and combining edge
or masculine pieces
with a feminine flair."

Over the course of two or three days, Miami experienced Winter, meaning unseasonably cold weather.  As a result, the black suit is the solution to any possible occurrence of 49-degree weather.  Fortunately, I am not the type to sway in fluctuating weather conditions so I threw on a black and white blazer with these silky jogger-like pants and called it a day.  Black suits are ultimately timeless, as they will never go out of style and there are variations to play around with.  I'm also quite a fan of the short set, especially in Miami.  Interestingly, I love power dressing and combining edge or masculine pieces with a feminine flair (exhibit A: gold watch and glistening black heels).

For its simplicity, this look pieces together the puzzle of how to dress fashionable yet logically.

It's a complete conundrum how it's already 2015, at the drop of a dime.  You expect to wake up after celebrating New Year's Eve with a bright new perspective on life, a workout plan to get that six-pack and perfect booty, and live for the day.  Then you realize that it's just like any other day.  With that, I'm going to kick off the new year tying up loose ends and refusing to create a resolution, but rather continue to focus on new business and growth.

As one year comes to a close and another commences, I look back on how my style has evolved over time and it's usually quite entertaining to skim through.  Either way, it's amusing to go back in time to catch a glimpse of what was occurring in my life at that moment.

Plunge Jumpsuit + Pastel Cocoon Coat

There are few things that beat the Winters in Miami, paired with sun-filled Sundays, toes in the sand and salty water splashing through the hair.  And just like that, I'm back in Miami Beach (and my fluffy white bed).  Don't get me wrong…it's always a joy to travel home and see my family, but it feels good to be back in crop top/denim short weather.  For the best of both worlds, I decided to pair this black GUESS jumpsuit with an alternate soft-toned cocoon coat.  I love the combination of pastels with dark shades, as it offsets the femininity of the coat.

Red Midi Skirt

Midi skirts seem most appropriate during the Fall/Winter season, although I'm fairly keen to mini skirts or flouncy A-line skirts.  However, I feel so feminine and radiant in this bright red midi skirt from Express.  I'm a firm believer in dressing for your body type, and for some reason, midi skirts have never really been too flattering on my shorter-framed body until I discovered ways to alter it for a more appealing look (without looking like an oompa loompa).  Whenever I'm wearing a skirt or dress that hits beneath the knees, I offset it with a light colored crop top to elongate the torso and high heels of at least 4 inches or taller.  A neutral heel, such as nude or metallic, helps lengthen the appearance of legs as well.  There you have it - my tricks for hiding my short height.

Career Advice with ANN INC.

career advice, how to get into fashion industry, work advice, career tips, inspiration, leadership, retail, fashion, social responsibility, confidence, women, ann inc, loft, lou and grey, miami fashion blogger, style by lynsee

For today's post, I'm teaming up with ANN INC. (Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lou & Grey) to share my advice for jumping into the fashion world. Often times I receive questions regarding fashion blogging and how to make it a career, and the primary boost behind it is to focus on what exactly it is that you would like to achieve in a profession. Whether it's owning a fashion label, designing for a major fashion brand, or even managing a retail store, determine where you see yourself in five years. The next step is to make a plan of attack. For me, writing thoughts and goals on paper helps motivate me to continue pushing. It's also important to connect with like-minded people who are in the same business of interest, so attending networking events is also a plus.

Applying for jobs can be quite tedious and stressful, but there are some key fashion companies who are incredible to work for. For example, ANN INC. is a great place to work if you're looking to break into the fashion industry (the only fashion retailer to receive the 2014 Gallup Great Workplace Award). ANN INC. offers a range of positions in various fields such as store management, design, merchandising, e-commerce, sourcing, and planning & allocation.

At ANN INC. their classic motto, "We Get Women" resonates through the brand. ANN INC. associates are committed to and driven by a simple but profound mission: Inspiring and connecting with each other to help women put their best selves forward every day. They also support and celebrate the richness of women's full, multi-dimensional lives ANN INC. wants to welcome you to your career with a "hug not a handshake."

Jaunty in Denim

If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably already are quite aware that I recently landed in my hometown for a fairly long trip (two weeks nonetheless) to see my family.  Despite feeling like I was freezing what body parts I had left, it was a relaxing time spent.  It's refreshing to be home, as it gives me time to sit still for a second.  Lounging, in the sartorial and physical senses, has never been something I have been incredibly well at accomplishing.  With that being said, jumpsuits or one-pieces are my go-to for casual wear.  What's even better than a jumpsuit?  A denim one of course.

On a sunny 10 o'clock in the Midwest, standing in 30-degree weather, this little number kept me nice and cozy while still attempting to remain chic in these lace-up metallic booties.

Off the Grid

And just like that, I'm shooting photos in a 30-degree parking lot.  Whenever I travel up north to see my family, I tend to be the overdressed Asian wherever I go.  Despite my apparent love for oversized marshmallow snowsuits and moon boots, I appreciate structured pieces as well.  Hence, the windowpane suit by Express.  A statement suit is great to have in the closet to wear as one piece, or break it up for varying looks.

Dream in Black

mattress, beautyrest, beautyrest black, simmons, healthy sleep, how to sleep well, home decor, fashion blogger, luxury, diamonds, memory foam, healthy sleep

The fact that I am able to escape life for a few hours by sleeping on a luxurious mattress helps elevate the experience even more.  For today's post, I'm teaming up with Beautyrest to introduce the ultimate fusion of luxury and performance, offering a sleeping experience that allows you to live life fully recharged. There are no words to describe the amount of pure bliss that I felt when I first slept on the Beautyrest Black®, which feels like a retreat from my daily stresses.  For those who know me, it's pretty apparent that I have had horrible back pains for some time now (I partially blame this on my ability to stay hunched over my laptop throughout the entire day). Designed with the latest technology, the Beautyrest Black® merges luxury and technology with for a techno-luxe experience.

Well, my cyber friends, this mattress transformed my life.  To put it in simple terms, it feels like you're sleeping on top of a million feathers laced with fluffy pillows while being carried by 20 Greek Gods.  The Beautyrest Black® is where luxury meets technology, designed with Micro Diamond Infused AirCool Memory Foam.  Yes, the mattress contains up to 1,000 carats of diamond particles in a queen size bed.  How can sleep get any more luxurious than sleeping on diamonds? Consequently, sleeping on the Beautyrest Black® transformed my rigid sleep patterns into an experience of luxurious sleep for all the senses.

Thigh High

After what seemed like a complete day of traveling in efforts to see my family, alas, I have entered the arctic.  It is both tranquil and chaotic at once, as I'm temporarily stationed in 37 degree weather until I have to throw my life into a suitcase for a brief New York City stint.  There's something beautiful about coming back home, despite my love-hate relationship with the cold weather.  I may be quite the backer of footy pajamas and the Snuggie while up north, but I'm also a sucker for fashion pieces with purpose and style.  Hence, the shirt dress.  I've been wearing it with everything thigh high boots to black leggings, denim skinnies, and leather pants.  Combining the ultimate exclusionary with the entirely attainable is so alluring.

The Leather Brigade

Upon careful consideration of Fall/Winter wardrobe staple apparel pieces, denim and leather have seemingly fallen into place.  Also known as the "new classics," denim and leather pair perfectly well together for a sexy and edgy look.  The force behind styling a ready-to-wear street look is to select garments and change the traditional way of wearing them drastically.  Instead of a thick denim shirt with casual jeans, lightweight chambray button-ups, or leather overlays and ankle booties to show a peek of that ankle cleavage (is that even a fashion term?).

Whatever you do, add some standout accessories to polish it off and boom - biker chic just happened.

Against the Grain

In lieu of going along with the typical "no white after Labor Day" fashion stigma, I've teamed up with fresh and vibrant brand, Missguided, for this monochromatic look.  Although I'm a firm believer in taking inspiration from various avenues when it comes to wardrobe selections, Fall/Winter in Miami isn't exactly grounds for wearing five layers of clothes with dark color swatches only.  Lo and behold, Lynsee is wearing white after Labor Day and it feels pretty damn fabulous (and breathable).

Contrasting cuts of this crop top and pencil skirt give the overall look an interesting appeal that keep one from looking like marshmallow man, and the gray skyscraper heels introduce that Fall gray trend without going overboard.  A great way to introduce trends into your wardrobe is by incorporating it in through accessories.
