American Black Film Festival VIP Private Event Recap

Last night I had the opportunity to attend the American Black Film Festival VIP Private Event for opening night of the festival.  First of all, I'd like to give you a little insight on this festival which has been going strong for over 16 years.   ABFF consist of four days filled with movie premieres, master classes, panels, exclusive parties, contests and awards facilitating collaboration, education and deal making within the entertainment industry.

The event that I attended last night was an opening night soiree complete with the acclaimed director and actor Robert Townsend in addition to actress and event ambassador Tracee Ellis Ross.  In addition, director and actor Bill Duke was present as well.  It was a great turnout with many key players in the Miami community and entertainment world.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to snap many photos because I was busy running around and networking but here are some shots from this amazing event!

I will be posting more photos through my Twitter and Instagram so make sure to keep up with me there!  @LynseeHeeKyeong

3 Ways To Wear A White Blazer For The Season

One of my favorite wardrobe staples is a classic white blazer, as it complements various items in my closet.  What's great about a white blazer is that it can neutralize your look and dress it up or down.  The looks that I've put together for today's post are more tailored to the spring season; however, it's completely up to you and what you have in your closet.

City Girl Chic

For this look, I've paired a striped top with some bright lace shorts to give it a feminine touch yet keep it a little structured.  Pair it with a floppy hat, some classic black heels, and throw on your white blazer to complete this city chic look which is perfect for a daytime lunch with the girls.
Playfully Elegant

This look is completely feminine, which is why I love it so much.  Although I am constantly expressing my adoration for menswear as women's attire, there is something even more powerful about a glam look designed for an elegant woman.   I've paired a tiered tutu skirt with a neutral sequin top along with some Mary-Jane bow accented heels to further enhance the girlish look.

Weekend Casual

There is no reason why any woman/mother can't run her weekend errands and still remain stylish while doing so.  Therefore, I would rock this look to run some quick errands or do some shopping in the city.  Rompers are my go-to spring and summer items because they are cute yet simple.  I've added a neutral braided belt in addition to these low chunky heels for comfort. Pair it with a rolled up white blazer and you're ready to go!

Rows of Bows

Happy Monday, beauties (and gents)!  It was another weekend in Miami filled with beautiful weather, so I can't complain too much about my weekend.  For today's OOTD, I'm showcasing this steal that I found at the local vintage market that I mentioned in previous posts before.  On various Sundays, vintage clothing or accessory sellers set up shop on Lincoln Road where anybody can come and purchase items.  There is one that I always stop by and she has some really great finds!  I snagged this one awhile ago, but haven't pulled it out of my closet until now.  It's a black blazer with light pink bow print throughout the outer layer of it.  I paired it with a chiffon black top and my favorite little sequin shorts.  The shoes are from ALDO; however, I removed the generic shoelaces and added my own special touch with some black chiffon pieces.

What I'm wearing:
Vintage blazer
Arden B blouse
Express shorts

ALDO booties with custom finish

The Golden Pants

Ever since I saw the Balmain Spring 2012 runway looks, I've been inspired to incorporate metallic into my wardrobe and my long running search for the perfectly structured gold pants has come to an end.  I found the last pair of these gold jeans at ZARA...and they just so happen to be my size!  I love adding standout items to my look.  Therefore, I added a deep purple blouse along with a structured blazer with gold lace overlay and leather trimming.  I kept neutral shoes since the outfit is already bold enough.  Let me know what you think!

What I'm wearing:
Bebe by Kardashian blazer
Express blouse
ZARA jeans
Guess gold watch

The Bow Tie

One of my new favorite accessories is this black bow tie that I scooped up from American Apparel.  As many of you may already know, I am a big fan of menswear for ladies nowadays.  I've been incorporating skinny ties, bow ties, and suspenders into my looks lately.  For today's OOTD, I paired a bow tie with a sheer collared blouse, bright pink lace shorts, a black blazer, and the infamous Steve Madden Mary Jane pumps.  Enjoy, my loves =]

What I'm wearing:
TJ Maxx blazer (great steal!)
F21 blouse
F21 shorts
American Apparel bow tie
Steve Madden pumps

Be Bold

I've been doing quite a bit of color-blocking with my looks lately and I happened to stumble upon this beautiful color-blocked shoulder purse at a local vintage store.  Therefore, I incorporated the purse with these bright green pants and yellow top.  I added green heels to enhance the overall look and a white blazer to neutralize it since I added so much color.  Let me know what you think!

What I'm wearing:
F21 blazer
American Apparel tank
Express pants
F21 necklace
Vintage shoulder purse

The Skinny Tie

One of my favorite trends right now is menswear for women.  However you prefer to style it, it can add a bit of structure or power to your look.  For this look, I paired a tuxedo jacket with a collared blouse, a lace skinny tie, and sequin pants.  I've also acquired quite the craving for these loafer heels as well.  They add a feminine touch to a masculine shoe.  What do you guys think about menswear for ladies?

What I'm wearing:
Vintage tuxedo blazer
F21 blouse
F21 skinny tie
Arden B pants
Hautelook (Me Too) heels

Look for Less: Pippa Middleton

Here is a way for you to get a celebrity look for less, featuring pieces that are of the same representation but easier for you to snag!  I replicated Pippa Middleton and her casual look.  I love it because it's clean and crisp, yet so comfortable.  Let me know what you think.

What I'm wearing:
F21 blazer
Gifted lace top
ZARA white pants
Target flats

Color Pop

One of my favorite rollover trends for this season is color-blocking for the simple fact that various bold colors can look beautiful together.  However, this is not to say that you should throw on every bright piece that you have in your closet.  It's almost like attending art class all over again!  Primary colors, complementary colors, analogous colors, and triadic colors look great together.  Primary includes red, yellow and blue while complementary colors are opposite on the color wheel (i.e. red/green, yellow/purple, orange/blue).  To dive into it a little deeper, analogous colors are typically next to each other (i.e. red, orange, yellow) and triadic colors are evenly spaced on the color wheel (i.e. green, purple, yellow).

For today's OOTD, I included the analogous colors red (pink), orange and yellow.  I'm very pleased with the outcome!  Let me know what you think.

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 blazer
Express dress
Target belt
Gifted clutch purse

G'd Up From the Feet Up

What I love about this outfit are these vintage pants I snagged at a local store.  After seeing them, I instantly had to have them.  What's really great about vintage pieces is knowing that nobody else will have the exact piece that you have.  I am a big fan of high-waist pieces because they help elongate my legs.  Let me know what you think!

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 blazer
Defined top
Vintage pants
Target belt
Bakers shoes
Guess watch
