I had the opportunity to speak with Pamela Fuertes, Vice President of International Economic Development for The Beacon Council and gain an exclusive interview from her perspective of this year's FNO!
What specific venues or stores are a must-see for attendees of FNO Miami?
"Great question, and truly, it depends on what the attendee is interested in; the Design District will have the participation of well-established brands such as Marni and Maison Margiela and Luminare, with The Webster. Aventura Mall will have a special Michael Kors presentation; and a fashion show – along with the participation of their individual retailers (such as Macy’s and Bloomingdales).
Both at Bal Harbor Shops and Merrick Park, Neiman Marcus’ respectively will have special presentations and celebrity experiences; along with SAKS Fifth Avenue and Santa Maria Novella with charity events.
Could you give me your perspective on how you view this year's event to be a success in the economic development region?
"I think Fashion’s Night Out – Miami is a really strong marker from which we have launched awareness and promotion about the fashion and retail industry of Miami-Dade County – and within that, in the larger scope, the creative design industry, which we know plays a very important role in the present and future development of our community."
What can new attendees of FNO expect to get out of this year's event, Pamela?
"Attendees can expect to experience a community-wide celebration of fashion and shopping – with a DESIGNED in MIAMI twist, which I think is what makes this year’s FNO-Miami celebration so special; my first Fashion’s Night Out experience was in Milan in 2009; and then in NYC in 2010 and one of the most impactful impressions I had in both cities, was the feeling of a community-wide participation in Fashion’s Night Out – people went for walks, boutiques had special promotions, give-aways, special window shopping displays – and regardless the budget, there was an opportunity for all to participate."
Don't forget, Fashion's Night Out is September 6th, 2012 from 6-11pm. A comprehensive list of official FNO events is available at www.fashionsnightout.com/fno/outside-nyc for my Miami locals or www.fashionsnightout.com for those outside of Miami.
