My Fall Juice Cleanse with OnJuice

If you've been following me on Instagram or any other social network known to mankind, then you know that over the past three days I've been conducting a Fall/Winter juice cleanse to detoxify my body.  Despite the controversy that fashion people don't eat, indeed we do.  Over the course of the past few weeks, my daily coffee intake amongst other desserts (think caramel french macaroons and miniature cupcakes galore) significantly overcame me and my body began speaking to me.  It was telling me, Lynsee, a detox is in order.

Bikini Slim Down Results with DeliverLean

For those who don't know, I began a "Bikini Slim Down" with DeliverLean about one month ago and the benchmark is almost up for completion.   This can only mean one thing - it's time to share my results.  Let me preface this by stating that I am only sharing my results to give readers an idea of what to expect from eating clean with DeliverLean's meal plan and living a healthy lifestyle.  Additionally, staying active is added into the mix of a slim down because the pair go hand in hand.

DIET
My meal plan with DeliverLean primarily consisted of pescatarian and vegan options with no gluten.  Cold-pressed OnJuice juices and raw desserts were also added to my plan, which made it even better.




A typical day of my meal plan:
Breakfast - Cultured coconut yogurt parfait with organic granola, mango, blueberries and raw cashews
Lunch - Candy corn salad with corn, grapefruit, mandarin oranges, hearts of palm and vinaigrette
Dinner - Herb mahi scallopine, quinoa cake and lemon dijon kale
Dessert - Gluten-free molten chocolate lava cake

WORKOUT REGIMEN
Each morning, I performed a P90X3 workout (30 minutes) followed by 200 squats and a walk to the park with my little guy.  I also incorporated ab-focused exercises in the evenings, such as Tone It Up.

SLIM DOWN TIPS
1) Drink a glass of water upon waking up to speed up metabolism
2) Drink a detoxifying tea in the evening


RESULTS
Over the span of a month, I slimmed and toned my body while losing 2 inches in my waistline and about 8 pounds.

The best way to start off a new season is by detoxifying the body for a refreshing transformation, which is a typical routine in "casa de Lynsee."  Juice cleansing has become quite the "trend" throughout the nation, but it often gets misconstrued regarding its purpose.  Many people have an assumption that by doing a juice cleanse means that a weight loss of 50 pounds in two weeks will occur.  It is true that by doing any type of detox cleanse some weight loss is bound to happen; however, most of it is water weight.  Additionally, the main purpose of a juice cleanse is to allow the body to heal itself.

After consuming multiple juice cleanses over this past year, I've learned that it truly helps give my body time to heal after putting toxins in my body and get back on the healthy eating track.  For example, I was eating my fair share of pizza and cupcakes prior to the approach of Spring.  Therefore, a juice cleanse was necessary for my body.  My body and mind felt fatigued and I lost focus, but after a seasonal detox I felt amazing.

Healthy Habits: How to do a 3-Day Juice Cleanse




A great way to kick off the New Year is by detoxifying the body of excess junk that builds up over time and cleansing.  Right before New Year's Eve, I did an at-home 3-day juice cleanse and posted my results on my Facebook and Instagram channels.  Despite the typical iPhone/mirror photography, I received plenty of feedback from viewers and friends who were interested in cleansing and asked questions such as:

What is a juice cleanse?
How long do you cleanse for?
What recipes do you use to cleanse?
What can I expect from a cleanse?
What should I do before I begin cleansing?
Will it help me lose weight?

Fab to Fit Series: Episode 3: What I Eat

Happy Halloween!  In continuation with my "Fab to Fit Series," it only felt right that I share Episode 3 with you on a day where we are all tempted by sweet treats.  Although everything is perfectly fine in moderation, maintaining a clean diet is something that I have personally found to be beneficial for my body.  Therefore, limiting the amount of gluten or dairy is a large part of what helped me develop a balance that made me feel good on the inside and outside.

Drinking a gallon of water per day has helped me learn when my body is craving fluid rather than food by drinking a full glass of water before and after each meal.  Another tip that helps me stay consistent is the MyFitnessPal app which allows you to upload your daily food, water and exercise intake.  It's available for the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android, and Windows.

I am often asked what my diet consists of or what types of healthy foods I have eaten to help maintain a healthy body, so I put this episode together to give an idea of what a typical day in the life my diet consists of (even though no day is ever the same).

For those of who aren't too familiar with the Beachbody brand or Shaun T, let's just say that the workouts will have one sweating in places he/she didn't know sweat could appear and crying by the end of the session.  Needless to say, I was invited to check out Sweat USA powered by Reebook as part of my "Fab to Fit Series" when the nation's first all-star fitness festival arrived in Miami.  With over 3,000 fitness enthusiasts in attendance and over 100 exhibitors showcasing their innovative products/services, it was one of the most inspirational and motivating events that I've attended.

The three-day event encompassed workout sessions with Sweat USA's celebrity fitness trainers such as Jillian Michaels, Tony Horton (P90X) and Shaun T (Insanity), among many others, to what Sweat USA has named the fitness capital of the world in South Beach.  The classes available were Flywheel Cycling, MMA, Crossfit, Piloxing, Surfset, P90X, Insanity, and an array of others to try out.

Although my outfits are typically dressed up, I decided to play around with the sporty look and feel for today's look of the day.  Focusing on these paneled House of Dion pants, I went for a more structured approach by cinching layered tops at the waist with a leather belt by ASOS.  The cinched belt adds a feminine touch that creates a balance between sporty and chic.

This look is really great for those who have a smaller frame because it accentuates the top and hip area to give a curvaceous appeal.  My inspiration for this look derives from my love for health and fitness, which I really wanted to merge into a uniform outfit.  Pairing a sporty piece such as paneled pants, a sporty skirt or shorts with a feminine top can really create a polished look.

New Video: Healthy Habits - My 5-Day Juice Cleanse Experience

Beauty stems from the inside-out, and one of my favorite methods for resetting my body is juice detoxing (or cleansing).  After a juice cleanse, it leaves skin looking much smoother  and gives a beautiful glow that can't be applied with makeup.  Therefore, I decided to try a 5-day juice cleanse to help remove any excess toxins from the body.  Although I've done cleanses before, a 5-day juice cleanse was a new experience and amazing to say the least.

A typical juice cleanse consists of drinking 5-6 8oz. glasses of raw juice per day, along with water and/or green tea without consuming any foods.  It seems to be trending on the west coast, with brands such as the BluePrint Cleanse, Pressed Juicery, and Jugo Fresh.  These companies will deliver juice directly to clients which is rather convenient.  For this experience, I juiced my own natural or organic fruits and vegetables because I own a Black and Decker juicer, which worked well for me.

Weekend Recap.

After what seemed to be the hottest weekend in Miami (literally), I managed to survive the scorching weather and spend some time relaxing.  My favorite day during the weekends is Sunday because all of the local Miami-ans migrate to Lincoln Road where the ritualistic farmers market takes place every week.  I love to go there and pick up local fruits and veggies for the week, grab an iced coffee from Starbucks, a sushi lunch at Doraku, and occasionally shop around.

OOTD: Valentine's Day Look & National Commercial Feature!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  If you read my Healthy Habits: How I Lost 55 Pounds in Two Months post, then you know that I lost my baby weight by doing the Insanity workout program.  My results were great so the creators of the program (Shaun T and Beachbody) flew me to New York to film the newest Insanity commercial.  For my recap of that trip, check out NYC Trip and Insanity Commercial Part I and NYC Trip and Insanity Commercial Part II.  After much anticipation, the commercial aired nationally over this past weekend and I'm so excited to share it with all of you.  The excitement is not strictly because I was featured in the commercial, but the hard work that paid off with my weight loss story.



I also want to share today's OOTD, which is a perfect look for Valentine's Day.  Pairing neutral colors with neon pink and sequins creates a fun yet classy look that remains romantic for this type of occasion.

For those of you who don't know, I lost 55 lbs once I had my baby about a year ago and I wanted to share my story with you because I've gotten a lot of requests from people regarding my weight loss regimen and tips on losing weight.  Therefore, I'm sharing my story with you  :)

Although the video is lengthy, it includes my entire story so I didn't really sum it up nor leave out any specific details.  Let me know if you'd like to see more weight loss videos, etc.

Friday Favorites: Healthy Habits - Comfort Food Swaps

Happy Friday guys and dolls.  Although eating healthy is not always the most exciting for some, it doesn't have to be dreadful.  There are a number of substitutions that you can utilize when you have a special craving for comfort food, whether it is sweet or savory.  Next time your stomach is screaming for something comforting, keep these in mind.  Enjoy ;)


1) French Fries
The thought of fried potatoes sounds delicious in your head, but it doesn't always agree with your body.  Therefore, a quick and easy swap for this common comfort food is to exchange it for sweet potatoes that have been soaked in cold water and baked at 375 degrees until crispy and golden.  


2) Macaroni and Cheese
Macaroni and cheese has been instilled in the minds of everyone ever since they were children.  No?  Maybe that's just me.  The trick to swapping this one is to opt for whole wheat pasta (penne or shells) and incorporate butternut squash mixed with a little fat free half-and-half and Laughing Cow low-fat cheese.  Butternut squash has a rich flavor and consistency that gives that added touch.

  
3) Ice Cream
Ice cream is a girl's go-to breakup dessert or the end all to flat abs.  Ben & Jerry's came out with a delicious swap for the fat packed original version, which is low fat frozen GREEK yogurt.  It has over half the calories and it still tastes delicious.



4) Spaghetti and Meatballs
Rather than adding all of the oil and carbohydrate packed pasta in your typical spaghetti and meatballs, a great swap is to make meatballs with ground turkey breast and mix it with whole wheat spaghetti and your favorite marinara sauce.  I tend to make my own sauce, rather than the store bought kind.


5) Pizza
Pizza is my all time favorite comfort food...or food, ever.  A few things to keep in mind when consuming pizza is to make sure the crust is whole wheat or gluten free and very thin.  You can make it at home using a whole wheat tortilla, some marinara sauce, low fat mozzarella cheese and your favorite vegetable toppings (or turkey pepperoni).

Healthy Habits: My Slimming Secrets to Fit in Your Favorite Jeans This Fall

Along with the fall season upon us comes all of the tempting foods and delicious desserts throughout the holidays.  Although it can be difficult to avoid stuffing your face with all of the yummy foods, I have some of my favorite slimming secrets that will help you fit in your favorite skinny jeans during the fall season.  I'm not doing this because I am some sort of fitness expert, but more so to give you some insight on what worked for me in losing weight and keeping fit.  Taking care of your body is imperative to your health and I believe it promotes self-confidence and beauty as well.


































Tip #1: Begin your day with a lean protein shake.
Rather than bulking up on a heavy breakfast loaded with carbs, like pancakes, choose to drink a lean protein shake (like Beachbody's Shakeology or GNC Lean Shake).  It will keep you satisfied until lunch time and boosts your protein intake.  Add a small fruit serving as well (i.e. a small apple or banana).

Tip #2: Eat slowly.
When you're consuming a meal, it's always helpful if you chew your food slowly because it gives your brain enough time to realize that you really are full.  Trust me, it works.  When you're eating during the holidays, choose foods that have less oil/butter and stay away from fried foods.



Tip #3: Drink a glass of water before and after each meal.
Believe it or not, drinking a glass of water before and after each meal will also help with your "sense of hunger" and it's great for your skin!























Tip #4: Go fishing.
Instead of eating red meat consistently, opt for fish because it's lower in calories than other protein selections.  I typically go for grilled tilapia or salmon and fill my plate with bright vegetables. 





















Tip #5: Soup, soup, soup.
Eating soup is beneficial because it helps you feel full longer and regulate calorie-intake.  However, don't get confused with cream-based soup which is full of fat and calories.  Choose a broth-based soup and put a cap on the broccoli and cheese or clam chowder.

I hope these tips have helped you, and remember to stay away from the Halloween candy (okay, maybe a little is acceptable).
