Long Hair Don’t Care – My Hair Story

Every moment of my hair journey has been a special one, and I wouldn’t take it back for the world. For today’s post, I’ve teamed up with Dove Hair to share My Hair Story.

Allow me to preface this by saying that my hair has undergone quite a bit of tragedy before I truly became comfortable with it. It all began with my infamous jet black bowl-cut hairstyle by the age of 2, which led on for a few years until my mom decided that it could be grown out (but I would still keep the extremely thick and blunt-cut bangs). It wasn’t until around second grade, when I had a brilliant idea to start wearing a small ponytail at the top of my head during my “grow the bangs out” stage. By the time I reached fourth grade, I was trying out different hairstyles for long hair (with mounds upon mounds of hairspray and gel) and by sixth grade I cut it all off. This may have been the worst decision of my life. Somehow, I thought it would be a magical plan to cut my hair into a bob. Although it sounded great in my head, the end result was Lynsee with a neck similar to that of a Brachiosaurus dinosaur.

During my high school years, I finally found a length that seemingly worked for me. I wore my hair right beneath my shoulders and barely tried anything unique. It was straight and bluntly cut at the edge, with no shape whatsoever. I was also dreadfully afraid of dying it so I stuck with jet black. However, everyone else was dying their hair and I always felt like the one Asian girl with boring, black hair. Once my college years came around, I started playing with light highlights and different styles of layering. Then the infamous “ombre” hair dye coloring trend came into play, and I thought this was going to look amazing. Unfortunately, the hair process was the worst experience I’ve ever had, and it took 8 hours of bleaching, dying, re-dying, etc. Needless to say, it completely damaged my hair and I regretted changing my original “boring, Asian” hair.

Fast forward to 2016, and I am back to my original color with a few dark highlights, and I love it. I enjoy trying various hairstyles, as part of my hair story. I’ve also learned to embrace the changes of my hair throughout the years that have brought me to where I am today. After all of the damage that I’ve done to my hair, the NEW Dove Regenerative Nourishment collection has helped to repair the damage of styles, color and treatments of the past. Next time you are at Target, grab the new Dove Regenerative Nourishment Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum in Oil.  Your hair will thank you!
