Halloween Costume #2

Happy Halloween guys and dolls!  Although I typically don't celebrate Halloween, I decided to do a little more since my little man is 1-year-old now.  So, here you have it...our second set of costumes (Wonder Woman and Captain America).  What are you doing for Halloween this year?

New Video! Mermaid Halloween Beauty Tutorial

Hey guys!  Over the weekend I took my little man to his first Halloween costume party and we were dressed as The Little Mermaid's Ariel and Sebastian so I filmed a tutorial to show you how I created the look.  I have one more costume that I'll be showing later as well.  I'll post a recap of the party tomorrow, but for now...enjoy the beauty tutorial and let me know what you're going to dress up as for Halloween.

Halloween Treats: My Favorite Dessert

My addiction to French macarons began when I first tried them at the Lincoln Road farmer's market and I started buying a dozen of them every Sunday ever since then.  They seemed easy enough to make so I decided to make my own and they were delicious!  I love how you can create different variations of these miniature pieces of heaven.  French macarons are primarily made of egg whites (yay, less calories) and confectioners' sugar.  I found that they tasted even better the day after I made them so I suggest eating them the day after; however, it's hard to wait that long.

They are the perfect cure to a sweet tooth - crispy on the outside and chewy once you bite into one of these babies.  I chose to make lemon, blueberry and chocolate hazelnut macarons but of course you can personalize them to your taste.

How to make French Macarons:

3 egg whites (day old)
3/4 cup almond flour (or you can make your own by processing almond slivers)
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Pinch of cream of tartar

I just bought jars of lemon curd, blueberry jam and chocolate hazelnut butter but you can always make your own

1. Sift together the almond flour and confectioners' sugar twice.

2. Whisk egg whites on a medium speed and add cream of tartar until soft peaks form.  Reduce speed to low and add granulated sugar.  Increase speed until stiff peaks form.

3. Sift flour mixture over egg whites and fold with a spatula until smooth.  I sectioned my batter into three separate bowls, added food coloring to each, and then poured them into separate piping bags (ziploc bags with the tip cut off).

4. Pipe 3/4-inch rounds about an inch apart on parchment-lined baking sheets.  Take your baking sheet and hold it about a foot above your table and drop it (this removes any excess air).  Let stand for 30 minutes.  Preheat oven to 375 degrees and bake at 325 degrees for about 8-10 minutes.  After each batch, set the oven to 375 and reduce again when you're ready to put another tray in.

5.  Let them cool and add your filling to each.  Assemble your mini macarons and enjoy!  :)

OOTD: Autumn in Miami

One of my favorite parts about autumn/fall in Miami is that I can still rock some shorts or a skirt in October.  Although I enjoy wearing layers during this season, I can't complain when it comes to beautiful weather.  This look is more of a casual daytime outfit that I wore to run a few errands.  I usually keep a pair of flats in my bag whenever I'm out as a "just in case," however.

What I'm wearing:
ZARA cardigan (old collection)
Gifted lace top
Target belt
F21 shorts and necklace
Express bracelets
Guess watch
Hamsa bracelet
JPK handbag

Vintage Finds + My Weekend Recap

Happy Monday everyone!  I've been pretty busy these past few weeks working on an upcoming project so I spent most of the weekend with my son.  The weekends are always enjoyable because it's our "family time" and Sundays are my cheat days where I indulge in yummy food.  I had some mommy time on Friday night, spent a lot of time outside on Saturday, purchased some new phone candy, and spent Sunday on Lincoln Road as usual.

The vintage market is back in season on Lincoln Road so I was uber excited.  I love vintage shopping because you can usually find some really good hidden gems, but it requires some searching.  Check out my weekend photo diary below and tell me what you did over the weekend.

FUNKSHION Fashion Week: The Red Dress Show OOTD

During FUNKSHION Fashion Week I attended the Red Dress Runway Show which benefited the American Heart Association.  Featuring local celebrities as well as the Real Housewives of Miami, the red dresses looked amazing on them!  This is a brief blog post, but I just wanted to show you what I wore to the event in addition to my hairstyle.  I rocked a faux-hawk that night, which was actually very simple to style.  Enjoy :)

Private COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss Revealing

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I hope you enjoyed the weekend.  FUNKSHION Fashion Week has ended so I thought I'd share one of my recent events that I had the pleasure of attending.  I was invited to a private event for the new COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss which was held at The W Hotel South Beach.  Myself along with other selected Miami fashion bloggers had the chance to get our nails done with custom designs by celebrity manicurist, Mar y Soul Inzerillo, that were inspired by the 2013 Custo Barcelona’s Spring-Summer collection showcased on the runway by Custo Barcelona for Vanidades Magia de la Moda 2012.

What would a manicure be without cocktails and delicious treats as well?  The W Hotel catered a lavish spread for us to nibble on while we compared nail designs.  I chose the nail design featuring Mint Mojito (#285), Go-Go Mango (#245) and Peaches and Cream (#125).  They even created custom cocktails based on each nail gloss shade!  How fab is that?  To complement our manicures, we could choose an accessory courtesy of Nordstrom's as well.  I selected some arm candy with gold detailing by Kate Spade.

The new collection will be released November 1st, 2012 so I'll be picking up a few of my favorite shades of course.
