Friday Favorites: Motivation

Anyone who knows me (or follows my blog) should know that I am all for positivity and inspiring others.  More specifically, I love to motivate and inspire women to understand their beauty and capabilities as well.

One of my favorite things to do is read from an uplifting book before I go to bed or as soon as I wake up in the morning.  I'm one of those people who highlights quotes that I like and then I go back and read them over and over again as the days go on.  It's something that motivates me and keeps my focus.

See below for some of my favorite quotes, currently:

OOTD: Night Out - Paint the Town..Tangerine!

Although I haven't posted many OOTD's for a "night out" or "date nights," I absolutely love this dress for a night out on the town.  It's the perfect sexy, yet completely comfortable dress for a date night with your boyfriend or a simple night out with friends.  The bandage look of the dress reminds me of Herve Leger; however, this one is Guess by Marciano.  The tangerine color is gorgeous as well.  It's the perfect dress with a pop of color to make you stand out.  I've paired it with a neutral blazer if it gets chilly at night, along with my DIY heels.

This look was also featured in my YouTube styling video for transforming summer to fall pieces, which can be seen here

What I'm wearing:
Gifted dress by Guess by Marciano
F21 blazer

New Video! What's in my September Glam Bag?

Although I typically post a simple blog post on "what's in my Glam Bag," I've switched it up a little by filming a quick video so you can see what's really in it!  Enjoy :)

OOTD: Ultimate Autumn Attire

As the fall season kicks off, I occasionally miss the cold weather where I can wear layers and boots for the cooler climates.  On the other hand, I enjoy wearing skirts and shorts throughout the year as well.  To neutralize my absence of rocking layers during the fall season I've decided to play with some of the trends in addition to pairing looks with fall-forward color sets.

For this look, I've taken a colored leather (well, pleather or faux leather) A-line skirt and paired it with a lightweight chiffon blouse.  I love pairing leather with something soft and girly because they complement each other so well, ironically.  I'm loving the mustard shade for this season, along with hunter green and burgundy.  I added a shoulder bag to keep the focus on my outfit, but light and simple.  As an added tip, rocking a shoulder or cross-body bag like this can help accentuate the length of your legs if it falls right where the bottom of the skirt/shorts ends.

What I'm wearing:
H&M blouse
F21 skirt
Target belt
JPK handbag
Gifted necklace
Guess watch

Healthy Habits: My Slimming Secrets to Fit in Your Favorite Jeans This Fall

Along with the fall season upon us comes all of the tempting foods and delicious desserts throughout the holidays.  Although it can be difficult to avoid stuffing your face with all of the yummy foods, I have some of my favorite slimming secrets that will help you fit in your favorite skinny jeans during the fall season.  I'm not doing this because I am some sort of fitness expert, but more so to give you some insight on what worked for me in losing weight and keeping fit.  Taking care of your body is imperative to your health and I believe it promotes self-confidence and beauty as well.

Tip #1: Begin your day with a lean protein shake.
Rather than bulking up on a heavy breakfast loaded with carbs, like pancakes, choose to drink a lean protein shake (like Beachbody's Shakeology or GNC Lean Shake).  It will keep you satisfied until lunch time and boosts your protein intake.  Add a small fruit serving as well (i.e. a small apple or banana).

Tip #2: Eat slowly.
When you're consuming a meal, it's always helpful if you chew your food slowly because it gives your brain enough time to realize that you really are full.  Trust me, it works.  When you're eating during the holidays, choose foods that have less oil/butter and stay away from fried foods.

Tip #3: Drink a glass of water before and after each meal.
Believe it or not, drinking a glass of water before and after each meal will also help with your "sense of hunger" and it's great for your skin!

Tip #4: Go fishing.
Instead of eating red meat consistently, opt for fish because it's lower in calories than other protein selections.  I typically go for grilled tilapia or salmon and fill my plate with bright vegetables.

Tip #5: Soup, soup, soup.
Eating soup is beneficial because it helps you feel full longer and regulate calorie-intake.  However, don't get confused with cream-based soup which is full of fat and calories.  Choose a broth-based soup and put a cap on the broccoli and cheese or clam chowder.

I hope these tips have helped you, and remember to stay away from the Halloween candy (okay, maybe a little is acceptable).

Gilt City Miami Warehouse Event Recap

If you watched my video that I posted yesterday merging a magnetic nail tutorial and a briefing on the Gilt City Miami warehouse event, then the following post will fit appropriately.  As I mentioned, I recently went to the Gilt City event here in Miami where invited guests were given the opportunity to peruse various high end designer items at a fraction of their original prices.  Gilt City is a membership only online store where you can purchase some quality pieces for a discount.  What made the warehouse event so unique was that it allowed you to actually walk in and try on the items before you purchase them, in addition to the extra price reduction made especially for the event.

I fell in love with many of the Valentino, Emilio Pucci, Marni and Missoni items.  Cocktails were provided in addition to sponsored products by PopChips, Vita Coco Coconut Water, KIND bars (LOVE these) and a live DJ was spinning in the upper area of the warehouse.  The lower portion had all of the clothing and home decor items while the upper section housed the shoe selection for men and women.

Unfortunately, most of the shoes were selected once I made it up there.  Imagine this if you will...I'm walking in heels, holding a 25lb baby on my hip, browsing the selection of clothes with my other hand and attempting to take photos with my camera for the blog.  Needless to say, it was quite the charade for me.  Overall, it was a great event filled with some exceptional designer pieces.  If there is a Gilt City event in your area, I suggest attending.  Check out my photo diary from the event below.

New Video: Magnetic Nail Tutorial

As I'm sitting here drinking my coffee, I'm reminiscing about the high school years when I used to put so much effort into painting my nails and creating special designs on each nail.  Nowadays, I don't really have plenty of time to sit down to do them so that's why I've been utilizing Sally Hansen's wondrous inventions (Sally Hansen nail strips are like the miraculous nail makeover for mothers especially).  I recently discovered their latest product, Magnetic Nail Color, which is a nail polish that allows you to create a design on your nails using a magnet.  Therefore, I decided to do a nail tutorial for you ladies (and maybe event some gentlemen too)!

What I love about this product is that it's simple to use and dries quickly as well.  If you're really in a hurry, you can always spray your nails with a quick-drying finishing spray to speed up the process a bit.  The magnetic nail polish adds some depth to your nails and comes in fall colors as well.  I also give a brief recap on my most recent event that I attended, Gilt City Miami's Warehouse Sale which was so much fun.  Check it out below:

OOTD: Hello, Goodbye Summer

Happy Monday everyone!  As we are all recovering from New York Fashion Week and starting off the new week, I thought I would share this outfit of the day which is one of my favorites on a hot Miami day.  Although it's cooling down in other areas, Miami seems to remain warm and humid (my hair is loving it of course).  When it's really hot outside, I tend to throw my hair up in a chic bun to keep it off my neck.  If you have thick hair, as I do, this is the perfect way to stay cool from head to toe!

A simple way to create a look that is both comfortable and weather-appropriate is to pair some colorful shorts with a basic white tank top.  I've also added open-toed platform sandals in a coral shade which complements the shorts.  If you'd like to see how I transformed this look into a Fall outfit, you can view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX2EquDS5iI&feature=share&list=UUQ90gZXdQErnOQHkoUT_6cA

What I'm wearing:
ZARA tank
Target shorts
H&M necklace
F21 earrings
Guess watch

New Video! How to: Transform Summer to Fall Pieces

Although the season is changing, that doesn't mean your entire wardrobe has to!  One of my tricks for keeping summer items around for the upcoming season is to layer pieces and learn to complement them well.  There are some pieces in my closet that I find work well in all seasons.  It's all about pairing them together with other season-friendly items (and of course you don't want to rock your Summer bikini in the Fall).

For example, keeping brightly colored tops, dresses, skirts, or even shorts around in the upcoming season can easily be achieved by adding layers.  I love the jewel tone trend this season; however, my heart will always be with pops of color as well.  I'm also loving the mixing of patterns for this season.  When it comes to fashion, I believe anything can be pulled off if you have the confidence to rock it!  Check out my How to: Transform Summer to Fall Pieces video below:

OOTD: The Perfect Daytime Look

Although it's September and the weather is cooling down in various locations, it still remains HOT HOT HOT in Miami (which is one of the reasons why I love this city)!  My hair might not love it so much, but we make it work.

Today's look is the ultimate daytime outfit because it's casual yet still adds a bit of femininity as well.  I combined a lightweight, neon top with a simple pair of denim shorts and cinched it at the waist.  I'm also rocking a pair of chunky heels that are absolutely comfortable so I can run around all day in these babies!  What's your go-to daytime look?

What I'm wearing:
ZARA tank
Cotton On top
Target belt
F21 shorts
ALDO handbag
